Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a doula if I have a partner?
Quick answer to this is, YES. Not only do we take care of you but we also take care of your partner. It may seem like something simple but one of the biggest things a doula does for the partner is give them a break. We understand that they are not the one in labor and their body isn't going through all the changes but being supportive is exhausting. Most partners don't ever want to leave the mother's side so it can get to the point of where they forget to hydrate, to eat, take a nap or get fresh air. Having a doula there, someone that you trust, have built a relationship with and has birth knowledge can be a big stress reliever. It can make the partner know that even if they need to step out just to be human that the mother will still be properly taken care of.
  • What are the benefits of having a doula at my birth?
Research shows that having a doula can lead to shorter labors, reduced need for pain medication, and a more positive birth experience. Doulas provide emotional and physical support to help you feel more relaxed and confident during labor and childbirth.
  • How can a doula support me during the postpartum period?
Postpartum doulas provide practical and emotional support to help families adjust to life with a new baby. They can help with breastfeeding support, newborn care, and household tasks so that parents can focus on bonding with their baby.

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

I often say that partners need a doula sometimes more that the birthing mom. It can be very scary to see someone you love and care for go through what can be the biggest marathon of their lives. Having a doula who knows and can explain the psychology of birth is instrumental in assisting with the partner being able to comfort the birthing mother.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

The Doulas role is to offer emotional, educational and physical support. Doulas do not perform any clinical procedures or tasks. I am here to offer you trusted suggestions on how to birth your baby in a way that is important to you and your birth plan.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

It is important for me to establish a positive rapport with all the medical staff in any birthing setting. We are a team that works collaboratively to assist you with carrying out your birth wishes.
